File Formats (all on mac platform only)
Adobe PDF (preferred)
- Acrobat version 4.0 compatible.
- All fonts must be fully embedded.
- Grayscale mode for black & white ads/CMYK mode for color ads.
- Any transparent elements must be flattened and any blends expanded in native application before saving as a PDF. Note that we cannot modify PDF files supplied to us.
Source files must be supplied for any ad that will require changes to be made by us, in one of the following formats:
Quark XPress (version 5.0 or lower)
- Include all fonts and placed images used in file. Illustrator (version 10.0 or lower)
- Include all fonts used if we need to modify the text in any way; otherwise convert all type to outlines.
Photographic (Raster) Images
TIFF or JPEG. For JPEG, use high or maximum image quality setting.
Resolution
- 200 dpi or higher for newsprint (all JN pages except covers)
- 300 dpi or higher for JN covers and all other publications
Fonts
Adobe Postscript Type 1 fonts only recommended. Other fonts may cause errors
and/or not reproduce correctly.
Color vs. Black & White Ads
Process (Full) Color: All colors and color images saved in CMYK mode.
Spot Color: Spot colors should also be converted to CMYK mode. Contact your account
executive for the correct color break for JN spot colors.
Black & White: Everything in the ad must be in grayscale mode.
